From Potato People To Manga

Klara's drawing of a family walk. We called these figures 'the potato people'. March 12th, 2014

Klara recently completed an animation art camp at the Southern Vermont Arts Center. As I dropped her off on the last day, the instructor pulled me aside and let me know that she thought Klara had real talent. 'Every once in a while, one student comes along, and they just get it. She just gets it,' the instructor told me. She continued, 'I told her that no matter what she does in the future, she should draw with it.' Of course, what parent doesn't like to hear that kind of praise?!

Klara has always liked to draw, but certainly, in the last couple of years, her interest has taken off and this year she has spent hours with her iPad watching YouTube videos learning how to draw different types of Manga and semi-realistic drawings of people and faces, something I definitely can't help her with. She loves it and could do it for hours. She comes up with all sorts of characters and she names them too. My favorite names, which I have discovered in the large pile of drawings, are 'Double Trouble' and her sister 'Triple Trouble' 😂!

Here is a very small selection of pictures of Klara at work creating art and of her art work.

And finally, meet 'Cotton'. Klara asked me to add this picture. She created it on the iPhone too, that's why the lines and coloring are not very exact, she explained, because of the tiny screen and having to draw with her finger.  August 11th, 2021.
