In the winter season of 2009/2010, my first full season in Ludlow, the Okemo resort had 118 trails and I had set myself a goal: To snowboard every single trail on the mountain by the time winter was over. The record shows: on January 16th I snowboarded the first black diamond trail, on January 18th John introduced me to the woods, and on January 31st I slid across the first box in the park. By February 2nd I was working on mastering butters, nose, and tail rolls.
February 21, 2010 - 17 trails to go. February 23, 2010 - 15 trails to go. February 25, 2010 - 11 to go. February 28, 2010 - 8 to go. March 2nd, 2010 - 5 to go. March 6th, 2010 - 2 to go.
March 7th - DONE!
I was no expert snowboarder when I started! I was a bit scared of steep double diamonds and knew 'hugging' trees at great speed was not a painless experience. Some trails saw more of the bottom of my butt than the bottom of my board, but in the end, I did it and it felt great! John was a great teacher.
