On a stormy and thundery night in August of 2018, not long after I got back from a real estate training in NYC, Matt and I sat on our Adirondack chairs in our living room watching the lightning across the valley and talked. The conclusion of the conversation was the decision to finally get married, after five years of being engaged. Our plan was to surprise everyone at Klara's birthday party on August 25th and get married that day with the birthday party guests as our wedding guests, but Matt's friend who was going to marry us was not available that day. Which was probably good because we wouldn't have wanted to steal the show at Klara's 7th birthday!
So on August 24th, 2018, a day before the party, we tied the knot first thing in the morning in our backyard. Present were Matt and I, Klara, Tom, and the dogs.
Afterward, we took Tom out for breakfast. Then we opened a bottle of champagne and got ready for the birthday party the next day. We did spend part of the day communicating with family and friends, informing them that we had gotten married. There was general surprise and maybe a little bit of consternation that no one else had been asked to be present, but in the end, everyone was happy for us. As Matt likes to say, 'Nothing changed, and everything changed after we got married.'
In Klara's opinion, the wedding was 'boring' because there were no guests. She was not impressed.
Matt and I were just fine with the low-key event. To this day, he keeps asking me to marry him and I keep having to say: 'Not unless you divorce me first.' He doesn't seem up for that ...
I am very fortunate indeed to 'get lucky' twice and I look forward to many more years of adventures together. Happy Anniversary, Matt!
PS.: And, yes, this is the full extent of our wedding pictures 😜!
