We May Be Storytellers

'Who we are may be storytellers. Why we are here may be to collect stories and share them with one another. These stories are the content of our lifetime.'

Joseph Dispenza, 'God on Your Own'

As I was sorting through files on my computer recently I rediscovered this quote. I read Joseph Dispenza's book several years ago and have forgotten most of it, but this quote stuck with me. In the first chapter, he describes an out-of-body experience while in a meditation class. During this experience he finds himself floating upwards as a weightless and transparent bubble, and while floating through space he encounters other bubbles. He merges with one of those bubbles and in doing so tells a story to the other bubble, it is the story of his experience of a lifetime on earth. In return, the other bubble tells him its story. Then off he goes to another bubble and merges with that one as well, again telling his story and 'this time remembering more of it and grasping more of its meaning'

It all sounds a bit trippy of course, but I really like the analogy of humans as bubbles and in telling each other our stories we understand more about ourselves and each other. I suppose this blog is my bubble. Some of the stories I may have told before, but I agree with Joe, that in telling them again forgotten memories reappear and there are new realizations about an old story. The only drawback is that it's a bit of a one-sided experience since I am not hearing other people's stories as I am sharing mine. I have shared a few posts on this blog that I did not write and I would love to share more stories of others if anyone has anything to share. Let me know!

While I do feel somewhat 'compelled' to write at the moment and reflect on the past 40+ years and share some stories, it does seem a bit self-centered and self-indulgent at times. I think my hope is that after I have gone through all those final boxes of pictures and diaries, and organized the thoughts and memories that go along with all that has happened so far, I may be able to move forward with a clearer head and a better understanding of where to go next. Let's see how that works out ...

This particular post is a brief reflection and a bit of a 'space-filler'. I wrote quite a long story the other day but am still working to find the courage to actually share it because some stories we write in our lives are not as fun as others and yet they too are part of the bubble and worth sharing. I'll get there.

And why did I add pictures of neolithic monuments to this post? Well, because they are so old, that we can only speculate as to what the stories of the people who built these structures were and what motivated them. Whenever I visit these ancient places, I always wish I could be a time-traveling bubble and go back to merge with a few ancient bubbles to learn their ancient stories, I think it would be fascinating!

Lots of love from my bubble to yours!
